↠ About the Poet
Sir Henry Wotton was a famous scholar and critic of the seventeenth century. He was a worldly wise and practical man.
He was educated at Winchester , at Queen 's college , Oxford and entered the middle temple to qualify for practising at the bar. He was ambassdor at the cart of vinece and employed on various other diplomatic mission from 1604 to 1624. His definition of the ambassador has become proverbial , "An ambassador is an
honest man sent to lie aboard for thye good of his country. "
Wotton was provost of Eton from 1624 to 1639 and among his notable friend were jhone donne and lzaac Walton both of Whom were very famous Writers of their time. Today Wotton 's fame rests On His
Mistress ⇀ Queen of Bohemia and a didactic piecxe called Character of a Happy LIfe.

The Poem is one of the best poems on which the poet's fame rests. It is full of morals.
The poet has pointed out some qualities which make a man's life sublime.The poet tells
us that morakl qualities are better than worldly possessions. In his Own Peculiar Way he says that a man who is lord of himself thought he may have no land is an ideal is an person.
Thus in the last line of the didactic poem he says clearcly , " And having noting the hath all. "
